It started, as it often does, with a jealous heart. The keeper of said heart was a young woman- kind as she was beautiful. Her beauty was treasured- yea, coveted by many. However, there was another- as the story often goes- who was more beautiful, more dainty, and simply more in comparison. What was the girl to do but seethe in silence? When he arrived she received him kindly and allowed him entrance to her home so he may watch her open the gift according to Kyoko’s wishes. Once Invidia had unwrapped the gift, she studied it, well pleased by the craftsmanship that had been used to create such a masterpiece, having yet to look into the mirror. She thanked the stable boy and talked with him for a while yet, being as she was kind in heart. Eventually the stable hand left with a call goodbye over his shoulder and an agreement to meet for dinner sometime soon.
Once he was gone, Invidia smiled happily and went to pick up the mirror, looking into its shining surface.
And what she saw made her heart pound with terror and her blood sing through her ears.
It was her- no doubt about it. But what she saw in the mirror was a monster. Her jealousy was brought forth into her reflection, and what stared back at her was a green eyed monster. In the light of her newfound horror, she slammed down the mirror, buried her face in her hands and wept.
