It contained eight different social classes which were: the emperor and his family, the aristocracy, the bureaucracy which was split into two levels (the scholars and the functionaries), eunuchs, clergy, peasants, artisans, and slaves. The Tang’s economy was great as well. They were excellent in agriculture, craftiness, and trade. Under Emperor Gaozu, all men were given equal amounts of farming land. Men that owned more land had to pay more taxes than those who owned very little, so the government was making good money and the people were kept happy. Many other people kept busy by making silk, ceramics, porcelain, and doing many other jobs. Trade was also very important in the Tang Dynasty. Salt, medicine, gold, silver, and many more valuables were traded internationally and domestically. All of these skills contributed greatly to the economic structure of the Dynasty. The religions most prominent during the Tang Dynasty were Buddhism, Islam, Taoism, and Christianity. In the Dynasties before the Tang, the main religion was Confucianism. Confucianism was more of a philosophy, rather than a religion; more of a guideline than a belief system.
