Positive Freedom is when someone wants to be their own master, they don’t any anyone to get in the way of achieving what they can and can’t do. People who believe in positive freedom believe that they shouldn’t be able to make decisions for another human being since they do not know what is right or wrong for that individual. They believe that every man’s goal in life is to find happiness, self-fulfillment and to have good performance of their tasks. Berlin mentions how positive freedom is what a man views of himself. He believes that having positive freedom will help a man to seek self-realization and be able to identify their true self. Negative Freedom is where someone isn’t able to achieve a goal. Berlin mentions how there is political, economic and social freedom. Berlin believes that if someone doesn’t have the financial resources to achieve something, they shouldn’t be denied the right to have it if there is law stating they can’t have it. Berlin discusses many different political philosophers and how there were some political philosophers did not want people to have an unlimited amount of freedom since there was a risk of individuals getting in the way of another individual receiving freedom.
