The American government consists of three separate branches that include the following: Legislative, Executive, and Judicial. These three branches have different duties that help make the democracy of the United States of America work. The Legislative branch’s main duty is to write the laws for the United States. The Executive branch’s main duty is to enforce the laws of this country. The main duty of the Judicial branch is to interpret the laws of the United States, with the body of the Judicial branch being the Supreme Court. The first major role is the Speaker of the House. The Speaker of the House is an elected official who has the main job of presiding over the House of Representatives. The current Speaker of the House is Paul Ryan. Another major role in the Legislative Branch is the Senate President Pro Templore. The Vice President of the United States is the head of the Senate, but the Senate President Pro Templore has the duty of presiding over the Senate when the Vice President is absent. This speech is called the State of the Union Address. In this speech the President has the responsibility to give an update on the nation as a whole, almost like an assessment. He also has the responsibility to provide updates on the nation’s economy and the budget. Since the Presidency of Ronald Reagan, all presidents have used a tone described as “optimistic”. Even if the country is in turmoil. President Obama was recently criticized by several Republican nominees during their debate, they called his speech “story time”. saying he did not provide a plan of action on how to conquer the country’s many problems. The State of the Union Address gives the President an excellent country to boost the nation’s morale, bring the people together, or simply tell it how it is.
