The Igbo people had a good thing going for them before the British came and lead them astray from their culture and religion. Planting seeds of doubt and changing them from what they were. Many did not take to the new religion but most did whether it be for personal purposes, out of curiosity, or because others were. In one fowl swoop the British managed to mostly take out an entire culture. It simply fell apart. The ones who held onto it thankfully passed down the (good) traditions and then Achebe passed this novel down to us. So that we could learn from it, and hopefully not make the same mistakes again. When you first think about the title you might think that it just speaks of an item or possession like a toy car whose wheels break off.
