Hendrick Medical Center is the only accredited Heart Failure hospital within the 100-mile region of Abilene, Texas. In order to accomplish accreditation, Hendrick Medical Center has engaged in the difficult re-evaluation and refinement of the cardiac care processes to integrate the health care industry’s prosperous practices and the most up-to-date paradigms into its procedures for caring heart failure clients. The processes would integrate local Emergency Medical Services (EMS) and the Abilene Fire Department, and also other facilities and emergency services within Hendrick’s service location with the HMC Emergency Department (Hendrick Health System, n.d.). Processes and initiatives continue through the entire client’s hospital stay and will transition when the client goes back home. Hendrick Health System Project 2010 spent $86 million to expand it’s facility by 325,000 square feet featuring improvements in pediatrics to surgery and the parking lot which completed in 2012 (Bethel, 2012). With these improvements in the facility, this will help provide a better care for the Abilene community. The upgrades has increased the facilities capabilities. Hendrick’s facility has proven to comply with standards. For twelve years in a row, Hendrick Medical Center has earned the “Quality Respiratory Care Recognition (QRCR) under a national program aimed at assisting clients and families make informed decisions about the quality of the respiratory care services available in hospitals” (Hendrick Health System, n.d.).
