There have been many tests created throughout the years that have been designed to measure the cognitive ability of a person. Some have been reliable and valid, while others have failed to have those characteristics. The Wechsler Adult Intelligence Scale Test (WAIS-IV) is one of them. This test is not in its fourth edition with the first one being developed by David Wechsler in 1955. This test is administered individually. The instructions are fairly simple and the questions are not that hard to answer. This test is a bit too long ranging between sixty to ninety minutes to complete. This may cause problems depending on the type of person this test is administered to because there are some people who get desperate after a period of time. This may cause people to rush into answering the questions and provide inaccurate results. Other than that, the WAIS-IV test has everything a counselor or therapist needs to measure a client’s cognitive ability. Although the scoring can be difficult, the Report Writer software has helped tremendously in scoring and has provided mental health providers more accurate results. The new additions made to this 4th edition test has made this test more effective than the previous editions. This test is well organized and can even be used by people who have suffered a traumatic brain injury (Donders & Strong, 2014). This test is reliable and valid because it has been tested with people of different backgrounds, race, age, religion, and many more. It was also conducted with both women and men.
