Their first tasks on the job will be researching the right style of clothes and materials required for the time and location of what the performers will be acting. The research is to help the designer of making sketches that are believable within the stage of the story. As told, the costumer will contact vendors to seek out needed materials such as fabric and fasteners, and also retrieve cost quotes. If they cannot hire a buyer in the crew, they are then responsible for shopping and completing purchases, they will then help the designer and other people with breaking down the costumes, as well as the laundry and ironing the clothes. Costumers that are assigned to work during production, they will be similarly responsible for the the maintenance until the end of the play or until the photography has ended. The additional tasks will also include dressing spare costumes or transporting costumes from the equipment department
