His imagination has taken over the way in which he sees and interacts with the real world, causing him to seem mad to the people around him. In Don Quijote, the relationship between life and imagination is seen throughout the novel in many different ways. Cervantes explores this to highlight the importance of imagination and that it lives in all forms of literature. Life and imagination in Don Quijote are a constant theme throughout the book, being used in all of Don Quijote’s actions and how he looks at people in the world he is surrounded by. The real world serves as a reminder for Don Quijote even if he cannot fully understand it, a reminder that his imagination is not real. Although Don Quijote seems to fully believe that his fantasy world is his real life, the people around him and the physical planes of the earth are reminders that his imagination isn’t real.
