Coming from nothing to achieving greatness is a huge accomplishment; however, rising to a national sports star from living homeless in the projects of Memphis, Tennessee is quite another. Micheal Lewis; the author of the true story about Michael Oher shows how the main character faced many struggles throughout his life, including leaving his drug addicted mother behind to scavenge his way from place to place; yet, his message of positivity and his drive and dedication to become something greater than his status allows is the basis of the Michael Oher story: The Blind Side.
One of the first major steps in the life of Oher was attending Wingate Christian High School. Struggling with a grade point average of a mere 0.6 and not knowing anybody, or anything for that matter, it is safe to say Oher was not the ideal student. The only thing standing in his way was one class that he was not doing well in, but against all odds Oher received an “A” on his final paper and graduated from Windgate with a 2.52 gpa. Oher committed to Ole Miss, and things were beginning to look up; however, the tides turned and Oher found himself under investigation with the NCAA under suspicions the Tuohys were out to benefit their Alma Mater, Ole Miss. The NCAA’s investigation placed doubts in Oher’s mind about the motives of the Tuohys and Oher found himself searching for his birth mother and back to his old habits. Oher quickly saw the error in his suspicions and called Mrs. Tuohy to come get him. This creates suspense within the film and leaves you on not knowing what was going to happened next. Eventually the investigation subsides and Oher continues with his commitment to Ole Miss, although he had several other offers on the
