On the TLC plate the starting material had one dot, with an Rf value of 0.22. Reaction 1 had two dots, with Rf values of 0.29 and 0.55. Reaction 2 had two dots with Rf values of 0.24 and 0.53. Reaction 3 had two dots with Rf values of 0.25 and 0.55. In addition to these dots, there were small ovals on each lane; this was a result of contamination either due to touching the TLC…
5 drops of water was added to each of the 5 different samples in the first column of the spot plate. Each content was stirred well using a toothpick. Each sold was recorded as either soluble or insoluble. One drop of the universal indicator was added to each of the five wells containing the water and sample from step 4.…
Both The Thin Blue Line by Errol Morris and La Jetée by Chris Marker are movies whose diegesis revolves around their respective filmmaker’s unique theories on memory. My argument for this paper is that Morris’ stance on memory paints it out to be a fluid, changing subject and he does so through his use of highly stylized elements of mise-en-scene, sound, and straying from the codes and conventions of documentary-making. Chris Marker, on the other hand, portrays memory as a solid, immobile structure through his use of still images, editing, and a lack of color. By using the interviewing, or “talking heads”, element of documentaries, Morris allows key witnesses in the conviction of Adams to continue droning on, eventually starting to stain their own credibility.…
This gives each pigment a unique retention factor, a ratio between how far a pigment travels to the distance the mobile phase travels from a starting point. Retention factors are calculated using the formula Rf= distance traveled by sample component/ distance traveled by solvent (Science Buddies, 2014). In our experiment, the stationary…
For the Thin-Layer Chromatography (TLC) we tested the unknown A and the unknown B. Unknown A, has a similar Ratio Factor (RF) of the known sample of Caffeine which have a 0.31 mm and for the unknown B, it has a similar RF of Acetaminophen which have a 0.63- 0.69 mm, so me and lab partner concluded that the unknown samples that have similar RF of the known samples are the same materials. For equation 2, which have a 33% volume. Then for equation 3, which is the Areas of; 1- propanol is equivalent to 14.5 cm, 1- butanol is equivalent to 15 cm, 1- pentanol is equivalent to 17.5 cm. For equation 1, the percent of each samples collected are;…
In the film adaptation of the Stephen King novel, Thinner is a story that follows an obese, defense attorney that from the opening of the film is displaying characteristics of the typical American losing weight. He steps on the scale, which reads almost three hundred pounds, then he accepts a homemade smoothie from his supportive wife as she tracks his weight loss on their home computer. The lawyer, Billy Halleck, proceeds to go to court where he gets a guilty mob boss cleared of attempted murder charges.…
A WHIRLPOOL 5790 gas chromatograph which had a glass column was used to analyze flavor compounds. The carrier gas was 20 ml/min flow rate nitrogen. The temperature of injection and the flame ion detector was 150℃ and 200℃ respectively. The temperature of gas chromatograph gradient started at 60℃ and maintain this level for one minute. After that, it increased by 5℃ each minute and after 20 minutes reached to 160℃ and stayed at the level for two minutes.…
#3 - 'The Thinning' (Film) Director – 'Michael J. Gallagher 'The Thinning' by 'Michael J. Gallagher' is a film, set in a dystopian, dying world, where the UN has ordered all countries to eliminate five percent of the population annually, in order to help make the world a better place. The population is dictated by an aptitude test in high school, designed to keep the smartest students and convert the remainder into factory feed employees. In this text, I feel that I am able to empathise with Laina the most because, at the age of just seventeen, she had been left with the burden and sole responsibility of raising her two younger siblings in a world which is driven by study and unpredictability, while also having to front up large sums…
Aspectrophotometer will be used to measure the amount of brown color (tetraguaiacol) in the solution, showing how far the reaction has progressed. The concentration of the enzyme is changed but buffer is added to keep the total volume constant. A blank tube is used to calibrate spectrophotometer. Tubes containing…
In separate jars, 10mL, 20mL, 30 mL, and 40mL, was added after being measured in a beaker. The dependent variable was the time it took for the solution to return to a clear color, after being shaken for 15 seconds to turn it into a dark blue. After being shaken, the time it took to return to clear was taken on a stopwatch and recorded.…

Abstract This experiment involved an electrophilic aromatic substitution of bromobenzene. Two products were formed: 4-nitrobromobenzene (4-NBB) and 2-nitrobromobenzene (2-NBB). Utilizing column chromatography and recrystallization, separation and purification of the two products was obtained. The mass of 4-NBB, the para product, was 1.57 grams, while the mass of 2-NBB, the ortho product, was 0.80 grams.…
