At the time his accomplishments appeared to be an enormous step in the modern world, however it proved to be just the building blocks for many inventions that came later on in the future. Edison’s establishment of electricity originates back to Menlo Park, New Jersey, where he did research on the already invented light bulb and further improved the model. Following many trials and revisions, he perfected the design by developing a filament made of carbonized bamboo (Derganc, 1979), which resulted in the light bulb lasting longer, and being more affordable for the average person. Since it was now available for more people there needed to be a way to make electricity accessible to power the bulbs, so Edison’s innovations for electric light did not stop there. His goal was to make electricity so inexpensive that only the rich people would burn candles. Edison originated the first electric grid and ever since, the electric grid has been rapidly expanding, spreading to millions of cities across the globe. Not only did the grid make electricity available to everyone, it sparked the development of a variety of electronics utilized on a daily basis in today’s society. The telephone, the television, the computer and the radio are just a few of the fascinating innovations that derive from, and completely depend on electricity. Another major technical ingenuity …show more content…
Society simply cannot operate without it, as the majority of tasks done on a daily basis rely on technology. Basic necessities that many people take for granted such as lighting, heating, air conditioning, cooking and refrigerating depend on electricity. People are bound to the technology that is undoubtedly a major part of society, which continues to transform society. The world is a rapid path to becoming entirely tech-based society where robots will begin to do work that a human would normally do and the necessity of paper will no longer exist. The electric grid changed the world forever, and has created a network that is unable to function without
