There were two wars that impacted American history a great deal: World War I and World War II. WWI lasted four years and had 16 million deaths, and WWII lasted 6 years and had 84.6 million deaths (“Compare War Statistics.”findthedata.com). Although all of this sounds bad, there are some exceptions to these wars. A just war theory is when the reason and how it is fought are moral, humane, and justified (“Just War Theory” ep.utm.edu/justwar/ ).The Catechism states, “The use of arms must not produce evils and disorders graver than the evil to be eliminated.” meaning that one should only kill in a war if it is to protect their country or rights and that they should only be killing and not torturing or firing at unarmed civilians. “But to you who hear I say, love your enemies, do good to those who hate you…” (Lk. 6:27).
