To all the dreamers and the believers, it is a tremendous honour to be standing in front of you today to introduce an outstanding director, producer, artist, writer and animator. He is infamous for his creative, mysterious, dark, strange filmmaking trademarks and for countless movies from Alice in Wonderland to the Corpse Bride and even Batman.
Tim Burton, has pushed his way into the forefront of film direction in the past two decades, bringing many iconic role models and amazing works of art to life. Everyone can agree that Tim Burton will always be the one and only Tim Burton.

Burton’s first big budget film was Batman which became one of the highest income productions of all time. His films focus on a main character who is an outcast in society, they are strange, misunderstood and eccentric characters like Batman and Edward Scissorhands. He does this because that’s how he felt growing up. He so aptly states, “one person’s craziness is another person’s reality”.
It is obvious you watching a Tim Burton inspired movie because he makes use of film techniques that are a common throughout all his movies. He uses white make-up for his characters such as the Joker and the Madhatter . He does this to show that they are wearing a mask because they have a backstory to why they act in a certain way. We learn these back stories through flashbacks.
He repeats themes such as craziness versus normality and he represents them very specifically by making them black and white.
He uses lighting to create a mood, and show sadness or happiness. In Batman, this is evident as Gotham is portrayed in dark harsh lighting to emphasise helplessness and the desperation of the sad
