Robinson. Another piece of evidence is “‘In the name of God, believe him’ I think that’s what he said.’”(Page 275 Chapter 20) This shows how Atticus is courageous because of how he is going up against practically the entire town of Maycomb because of how they all had the mentality that all black people are wrong and immoral and he is asking them to look the other way and realize that Mr. Robinson is actually innocent and telling the truth. This also puts Atticus in a position where others can look at him as a “Nigger-lover” which isn’t looked very kindly upon in the town of Maycomb. One great example is shown at the beginning of the book which says “The tradition of living on the land remained unbroken until well into the twentieth century, when my father, Atticus Finch, went to Montgomery to read law, and his younger brother went to Boston to study medicine.”(Page 4 Chapter 1) This shows how Atticus is courageous because he was able to break away from being a farmer, a tradition that was held by his family tree, and follow what he wanted to be, rather than staying as a farmer. Another piece of evidence that shows Atticus follows his heart is “ ‘Atticus are we going to win it?’ ‘No, honey.’ ‘Then why-’ ‘Simply because we were likced a hundred years before we started is no reason for us not to try to win.’ Atticus said.”.(Page 101 Chapter 9) This shows that Atticus is following his heart because he knows that in the trial of Ewell vs. Robinson there is almost no chance of him actually being able to prove Robinson is innocent but he still plans to do it, because he wants to actually try at least. Regardless of what everyone is telling him, he still wants to try and defend Mr. Robinson and prove his innocence. A final example is “Atticus was leaving the post office when Mr. Ewell approached him, curse him, spat on him, and threatened to kill him” (Page 291 Chapter 23)Atticus knew that Mr. Ewell would do this because of how foolish Atticus made Ewell look in front of the judge, jury, and crowd but Atticus
