The overall purpose of the book, was to show that even the bravest, and proudest ruler, crave , and want power, because of the advantages and privileges it has with in the position. Animal Farm, a novel written by George Orwell, is representing the idea that, leaders who use power use language to deceive their citizens, which results in further brutality. Animal Farm, written by George Orwell, excels its original context, making it still relevant today by using allegory toward both the Russian Revolution, and the novel itself. First, the struggle of finding a leader that is not completely craving power is an occurrence between both the novel and Russian Revolution . Second, the complication of continuing to follow rules once they are made is a recurring problem that still occurs today. The relation to present day is, when a higher power speaks or explains their opinion, in which influences their peers or citizens in a strong way. Language as power is used in the Russian Revolution, throughout history, and even the present day. Throughout the present day, language as power is used, especially with leaders such as a president or a higher office in order to persuade or convince an audience, into believing or doing something. This was also used throughout the French Revolution, when the leader at the time persuaded the audience using speech. In the text it says, “... the newly elected legislative assembly declared war on Austria and Prussia” (Paragraph 9 French Revolution Document). This means that assembly, declared war with speech, which resulted in a War because of the use of communication. In the French Revolution although you may not be an aristocrat, you can still earn the respect and, have the power, with the use of speech, and conversation. In the text it says, “The non-aristocratic of the third estate now represented 98 percent of the people…” (French Revolution Document). This means that it was similar to the Russian Revolution, because even though they weren’t considered royal they still had an opinion and represented their people, and in the Russian revolution non-royal citizens had a say in things. Language as power is used throughout both the French
