People who have Endocarditis will have inflammation of the inner walls of the heart mainly in the heart valves. This can also infect artificial heart valves, pacemakers, or implantable defibrillators. Endocarditis infection is most commonly found in people with preexisting heart diseases. To get this infection the bacteria will enter the bloodstream and attach to damaged places of the inner parts of the heart, but not all the bacteria entering the bloodstream will cause this infection. If this is untreated or not treated in time the patient will most likely die. Endocarditis will damaged the heart valves to where the heart will start leaking and will not be able to push the blood throughout the body. There is a few ways to prevent it; to do it on your own you should have good oral hygiene. When the patient goes in for an examination they could possibly hear a new heart murmur. Also, new skin, fingernail, or eye changes could be noticed. Change of behavior is another symptom of this infection. It is very hard to diagnose in young children, because the typical symptoms may not be present or may be hard to determine if it is a part of the infection. People with medical issues have a high risk of getting Sepsis.
