Nonprofit board members must deal with securing donations, marketing and ensuring the accountability of the organization they serve. The board consist of six elected members and three appointed members. The six elected board members where from County Council districts. The other three members were appointed by Governor Larry Hogan. The members all acknowledged that they were facing a number of difficult challenges and they all looked forward to making the best choice for the school system. It took six years for the board to be put in place after the passing of the legislation six years ago. The board will also consist of Gene Hatcher, a rising senior at a local high school, who will represent about 38,000 student.
