This type of survey of low cost, simple and a quick method for locating information on the needs of the community. Knowledgeable people such as clients, clinic directors, and police are key informants that are included in taking the survey. A community survey collects information from a sample of the community, or targeted population group, through some survey instrument (Fleming, 2016). This type of survey is more expensive and time consuming. A more relatively inexpensive type of assessment of population needs is a demographic analysis (Fleming, 2016). It uses existing data sources. This data can be used to make projections about need using estimations from target populations. Some examples of demographic analysis include the US Census Bureau, the Department of Health and Human Services and voter registration lists. Data sets that use existing data to make inferences about need in a population are inferential indicators. Examples of these include published and unpublished reports, insurance claims collected by Medicare or Medicaid, private insurance vendors, or periodic surveys collected by the National Center for Health Statistics. Lastly, analysis of programmatic data, which includes healthcare provider files, can assess the needs of the population as …show more content…
The Human resources department is important in needs-based planning because it aids in forecasting various important decisions. By incorporating the human resources planning process which consists of profiling, estimating, inventorying, forecasting, and planning, with epidemiology we can more successfully estimate needs. It can help in determining the amount of services or resources that are needed in a population. With knowing what services are needed, this can help to figure out how many physicians may be needed in the future. Knowing an estimate of the number of physicians that may be needed compared to an estimate of how many there may actually be, can help to prevent shortages. For instance, if heart disease is expected to continue to rise in a population, there may be a future need for hear surgeons or family physicians to help reduce the risk factors of heart disease. The human resources department can use the planning process to ensure that will be a sufficient number or qualified physicians in the needed
