Sculptures are 3 dimentional and are often textured; in the case of Willendorf, the surface of limestone creates a roughness. Oil on canvas might have a bit of texture, nevertheless, it is a flat surface. In May Evening, the artist employs optical illusion to achieve the 3rd dimention effect. Second, Willendorf is from the Stone Age compared to the painting which was completed in the 1800s. Also, the sculpture is not proportionatly correct while May Evening captures the scale perfectly. Third, there is not setting aside from Willendorf herself, yet May Evening takes place in a lush garden scene. Noticeably, there are numerous variances among each art work. Time plays a huge part in the intentions of artists, how they view life, and why they decide to preserve what they created. Comparing and contrasting Venus of Willendorf with May Evening is just one of countless other evaluations out there from various ages of time. Seeing Willendorf in person would be something special; it would be even more educational if I could take May Evening from Prauge, Czech Republic’s Museum of Modern Art where I viewed it and hold it up to Willendorf. Even though the chances of that occuring are rather slim, I can still look at both pictures to note both their resemblances and variances. Art is creativity preserved and that is why it has lasted so many
