The main effects of the violence are crime. Teens are beginning to join gangs and get involved in altercations with the police (6). The law and police officers are being forced to step in and stop teenagers being associated with gangs and participating in street crimes (1). One of the largest and most problematic effects of teenage violence is the changes in social behaviors. The causing’s of teenage violence are beginning to affect teens self-esteem, cause social anxiety, and in many cases it has caused depression (8). Assaults are not the only crime problem caused by teenage violence; there has been an increase in street violence caused by teens (2). “Nearly 700,000 young people ages 10-24 are treated in emergency rooms each year for injuries sustained due to violence-related assaults (9).” Many teens face some kind of violence every day at home or in school; this can lead to many effects (5).
