Devin is in a safe home and in good health. Previously, he was experiencing difficulty controlling his bowel movements. This is now under control. Regarding mental health issues, Devin has been receiving individual therapy from Dr. Michael D’Andre and has made positive progress. However, a problem has recently arisen at school. Devin has stopped participating in his schooling. The Court will recall that in the past, she has not participated in these proceedings. Mother’s participation is significant as the current legal guardian, Grandmother Joann Kawaguchi, is not willing to care for Devin and Father, Bryson Kawaguchi, has indicated that he is not able to care for Devin. Mother has stated that she will participate in an ICPC and become an active participant in this matter. Contact will be initiated by the caregivers on Oahu to update Mother on Devin’s health and mental issues.
Mother blames Grandmother and Father for Devin’s situation. She said that Devin was “yanked from me” by Grandmother and Father, that she was unable to participate in the guardianship proceedings and that the State of Hawaii failed her son. Mother also said that all of Devin’s psychological issues occurred after Grandmother became guardian. She firmly believes that once Devin is “out of the system” and placed with her, he will be “okay” with her and God’s care.
Recommendations:
1. Devin continues in foster custody and continue current treatment.
2. Devin’s behavior at school be monitored, assessed and addressed.
