Volcanoes: The Veins of Planetary Life
Part One:
Volcanoes are essential to function and formation of our planet. Each one, dormant or active, is able to give insight as to the creation of the world around us. With many volcanoes spanning the area known as the ring of fire, we are able to obtain information and research in a central location in the sense of a planetary scale.
While volcanoes are all over the earth, if we look at a few examples, we can determine a multitude of information that can help mankind better understand the world around them. A famous volcano located in Italy (38.789 N,15.213 E), Stromboli is perfect example of a stratovolcano that is in a constant state of explosive eruption …show more content…
The Mount Etna stratovolcano (37.734 N, 15.00 E) is located near the metropolitan area of Cataina. The volcano towers 3,330 meters high with the island it sits upon covering an area of 1,190 square kilometers (Branca). Like Stromboli, Etna is in a constant general state of eruption with mild explosive and strombolian eruptions throwing magma and bombs around the island for thousands of years(Branca). Since Etna is located closer to a mass population, and with the constant eruptions, the population of the Island is at risk. Should the volcano ever become violent beyond control, the population could be in dire …show more content…
The Augustine volcano stands 1260 meters high casting a massive shadow within the Cook Inlet on its 82 square kilometer island(Aden)(59.36 N, 153.43 W). This Stratovolcano has large explosive eruptions that spew lava and ash. When Augustine erupts, the surrounding area of Cook Inlet and the surrounding area suffer the effects. While augustine has a repose time of twenty four years on average the state of Alaska and the immediate area have grown used to the eruptions and the volcano is more seen as a means of volcanic study rather than a massive threat. With only ten major eruptions since 1812 recorded, it is unknown how many times Augustine has erupted(Augustine, Volcano,
