The only way to drastically increase turnout in the short and long run would be to implement this new national holiday. It will maintain and even enhance the principles of our democracy which will thus strengthen and unify our country to level it once was many decades ago. There is no real evident flaw or downfall to instilling this holiday, so with that said we should implant it into a fully functioning law. Just think, if we established this holiday prior to this recent presidential election, would the outcome have been drastically different? Or would’ve it stayed the same result? My personal prediction would’ve been that the tables might’ve turned, and a larger democratic vote would have been shown. People who live in the busier, more urban areas consumed by the hustle and bustle of work life could’ve made it to the voting booth if originally given the entire day off from work. These people typically run on the liberal side of the spectrum, especially if they 're in the lower to middle classes. In conclusion, I believe we as a country should step into action and create this advantageous law to allow for a paid Election Day holiday. Increasing the people’s political participation rates will finally start to grow and maybe one day be one of the highest our country has ever seen.
