Paragraph 3 from “Civil War and Reconstruction: Two Groups, Rights for All states”, affirms that the group that Du Bois created was “dedicated to fighting more resolutely for civil rights”. This shows that Du Bois did not just want the separate but equal doctrine to be true, he wanted to end segregation all together. He knew that if separation was in practice, then there was no such thing as equality. His group aimed to end segregation to achieve the total freedom that African Americans deserved as human beings and American citizens. However, others may argue that Booker T. Washington also cared for equality for African Americans just like Du Bois, making Du Bois no better than Booker T. Washington. However Booker did not want to achieve total fairness. Du Bois wanted to end segregation due to its false ‘separate but equal policy’, while Booker accepted segregation as stated by paragraph 12 of the article. Booker allowed for limitations on the Negro society, as long as they were ‘equal’. Du Bois saw through the façade, fighting for all the civil rights that belonged to African Americans.
Many men were a part of the civil rights movement, but not all are as significant as W.E.B Du Bois. He was a civil right activists who knew what was right for the people and knew how to achieve it. This is why that history remembers W.E.B Du Bois as a proponent early civil rights
