The First Continental Congress gathered for two consecutive months in 1774; they served as the first government of the thirteen colonies. Twelve of the thirteen colonies (minus Georgia) were represented, respectively, by fifty-five delegates. The Congress relentlessly argued on whether they should separate from Britain or accept their fate with Britain’s control. The colonies decided to revolt against Britain; America won. But alas, this was not the end of their fighting because they tried to make a peace treaty with King George III with The Olive Branch Petition soon after. It didn’t favor the colonies whatsoever, and the King rejected it. By coming together as one, they were eventually successful and became independent.

These articles acted as a form of government to keep the order in the colonies. Weak government was the main factor in the failure of the Articles due to fear of it being a too strong of government or too weak of a government; they wanted more freedom, so they decided on the weak government.
