Iowa Water Center is a prestigious organization that strives to create a better environment for Iowa State University and its community. Iowa Water center donates money for research, plans events, and so much more to help raise awareness for our local waterway systems. Every year, the Iowa Water Center hosts the Iowa Water Center Conference here at Iowa State University. Its purpose is to inform people about the sustainability and importance of our water. I created a poster to show and advertise the Iowa Water Center Conference to help the community strive to preserve our water systems.

My first decision was to decided if I wanted to create a poster or brochure. For the purposes of my audience I choose a poster. I feel that people, especially students, usually do not have time to sit and read information about an event. They are more likely to glance and read the most important details that stand out to them. In my case, for my poster, the two largest fonts were the title and “free food, drinks, and prizes.” The title is a large font to raise awareness to the event and I know many people are more likely to be involved if there is something free. Which also targets my audience because college students are interested in free things. Although I did not use any actual pictures on my poster I feel like the lines helped the flow. I also included a water faucet because I believe it relates well with the Iowa Water Center. In general, the entire text flows in the “z” direction because that is the natural way how humans read, so I wanted to make sure my poster followed that flow. The text is also shades of black to help contrast against the blue background. The background is blue because the color blue represent water and that is the main purpose of the Iowa Water Center.
Overall, the purpose of the poster is created to fit my audience's needs. Every detail, from the line direction to the color, was carefully thought out and precise. Without the knowledge of a target audience or purpose, any poster would be lost with its information. The audience and purpose helps set up the design to create the most awareness and
