Period 1
Water Erosion
Purpose
The purpose of this lab is to examine the streamflow and how it removes soil from the banking over time.
Background Information “Water erosion comes in several different forms with various causes. No matter the differences, we humans can have a large impact on our water quality and erosion rates. While the causes of erosion by water are generally natural, we can play a large role in reducing water erosion, and preventing water pollution”(GEI Works Erosion Pollution). There are 4 types of water erosion that can occur is Sheet,Rill,Gully,Splash. Sheet erosion is the Removal of a “thin layer of soil from a large area. Rill erosion is a series of small channels on a slope carved by running water” (Plant and Soil Sciences eLibrary). Gully erosion is a “large, wide channels carved by running water. As a rule of thumb, a gully is large enough that it cannot be smoothed out with conventional tillage equipment”(Plant and Soil Sciences eLibrary). Splash erosion is the direct movement of soil from splashing. Soil particles can be thrown as far as 3 feet by raindrop splash. The impact of a water droplet can dislodge soil particles making them susceptible to erosion, Water erosion usually is most often active in the Spring season like in April where it rains …show more content…
This error would lead to some difficulty and potentially bad results. Rather than putting it at a 30 degree i think that's a bit too high, try a 20 degree angle it's not too short of a angle to make the stream flow, this will help with when you're going to weight the data because some pieces of dirt fall into the water creates a disaster. Some real world connection with water erosion is when you're working on construction and when you're working with cement trying to work on a staircase or a patio you can't work when it's raining because it will mess up
