Monday- 7:45-12:00 Today was exhausting. The kids were hyper after the weekend and the morning procedures took a little longer than usual because we were reminding the students what they need to be doing. I also witnessed in the hall how sweet kids can turn and say something offensive. Our class was lined up in the hall ready to walk into the classroom. Some children were still getting into line from being in the cafeteria. One boy had his head shaved over the weekend. One girl took notice and began laughing, pointing, and calling him weird looking. Then he found it and we cheered for him. His face lit up in the biggest smile I have seen from him. The rest of my time at Andrew Johnson he continued pointing out the letter Y whenever he would see it. I also thought it was sweet that he told me that he loved me before he went to lunch. Today let me see how much encouragement can go with children. We can’t expect children to inherently know what a letter looks like or that they enjoy looking for letters that have no meaning to them. Children need encouragement. It helps their self-esteem grow and it will foster a love for
