Europe After World War I: This map shows all of the changes that happened after World War I. The biggest changes were Finland, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, and Poland were created as independent countries from land previously owned by Russia. Also, Austria-Hungary was split up and had to give land to Italy, Romania, the new independent country of Czechoslovakia, and the new independent country of Yugoslavia. Yugoslavia was formally Serbia and South-eastern Austria-Hungary.

Counties that were fighting on the Western Front, such as France and Belgium, had serious food shortages due to the constant fighting. Germany had serious food shortages due to the British Naval blockade. This blockade prevented anything from getting in or out of Germany. Also countries on the Eastern Front, such as Eastern Russia, Romania, and Serbia, had the greatest famine conditions in World War I because these areas were a constant battle zone. In Eastern Russia, the Germans and Russians were constantly fighting so there was no farming. Therefore famine conditions rose to serious levels.
