There were a few causes of the first world war. One of those causes was the assassination of Archduke Franz Ferdinand at Sarajevo on 28 June 1914. Archduke traveled to Sarajevo to inspect the imperial armed forces in Bosnia and Herzegovina, annexed by Austria-Hungary in 1908. The annexation had angered Serbian nationalists, who believed the territories should be part of Serbia. The angry nationalists had made up a plan to kill Archduke during his visit. Another cause of the war was a rivalry between great powers.
