Bravery, courageous behavior or character is the very definition of a certain mongoose, Rikki-tikki-tavi. The movie by Julie Ross, and the book written by Rudyard Kipling, altho similar have certain differences. In the movie and the book Rikki Tikki Tavi is washed out of his home during a flood. He is found by a family and warmed up. Rikki Tikki Tavi soon learns of the two formidable king cobras in the garden.…
Paragraph 2: In Rikki Tikki Tavi the theme is protection of family. The story starts off when a wild mongoose named Rikki is rescued by a man and his family(23). Now Rikki has a family to protect, then Rikki faces Karait and Karait is killed. On pg 29 Rikki kills Nag because Rikki heard Nag whispering to Nagaina "Go in quietly and remember that the big man is the first one to bite". That's how Nag died Rikki knew that they were going to try and kill the family.…
In Rudyard Kipling's fiction story, "Rikki-tikki-tavi", the theme of good vs. evil is demonstrated through Rikki's actions during his many conflicts within the story. For example, in page 26 it tells us that Karait tried to kill teddy but Riki saved teddy's life. And page 28-33 talks about nag and nagina trying to kill the family. Last on page 32-34 it tells us about nagina trying to kill rikki tikki. I think the theme is good vs evil.…
William and Mary Jane Flint in Farmington Early in their marriage, William and Mary Jane Flint made their home in Farmington, Utah. They lived in a dugout until he could get logs to build a house. To say there were a lot of snakes in the area would be an understatement. One evening, the snakes joined them for dinner. They were seated at the table when a large snake dropped from the roof by the tail and hung over a pan of milk which was on the table.…
This is the book where Betsy Byars takes a short break from the world of her usual fiction novel, and finally write an autobiography similar story of her childhood life and also some hints about her current one. The name of the snake is Moon and Betsy Byars found it her porch. After Moon had ran away, she would always wonder where the snake could be. She could not wait until she grows up so she could have as many pets as she wanted. It took about forty years until she got a pet snake.…
Rikki Tikki Tavi Comes Of Age The story of Rikki Tikki Tavi is a coming of age story because of the way he learns to solve a problem, accomplish a goal, and mature. Rikki Tikki is a young mongoose who washes up in a flood and lands in front of a young boys house. The boy, Teddy, and his English family take Rikki Tikki in and give him food, shelter, and a comfortable place to sleep.…
In the movie the mongoose is only called Rikki-Tikki rather than his full name of Rikki-Tikki-Tavi. Rikki-Tikki is washed up to the garden, which is roaming with two nasty cobras. Rikki-Tikki once again meets Nag & Nagaina in the garden but tries to scare him off with a little mongoose dance, which did not happen in the book. Another scene that didn’t happen in the book is that the movie goes into full detail of Rikki going into the bathroom and he falls into the tub where Teddy is bathing. The problem of the book is that Rikki & the cobras want to kill one another.…
Nag is a snake in “Rikki-tikki-tavi” and the author is “Rudyard Kipling”. Nag is a big black hooded cobra. He has a circle symbol on his hood. Nag is the enemy of Rikki-tikki. Nag also has a wife “Nagana”.…
Here is a quote from the story to prove my claim ¨Now if I kill him here, nagaina will know, and if I fight him on the open floor, the odds are in his favor, what am I to do?¨(Kipling 28).The evidence shows that Rikki was determined, because he sees nag in the tub and finds ways to defeat him and come out victories. The same thing happens in the…
In the short story “Rikki-tikki-tavi”, by Rudyard kipling it talks about Rikki-tikki an intelligent and curious mongoose, and Nagiana a mischievous and perseverant cobra. The theme of the “Rikki-tikki-tavi” is you should protect your family even if you have to die for them. First of all, Rikki-tikki is an intelligent and curious mongoose in the story. For example, “Rikki-Tikki stole in by the masonry curb where the bath is put, he heard Nag and Nagaina whispering together outside in the moonlight” (Kipling#16).…
In the short story The Rattler, the author questions the justifiability of taking any life. Understanding the reason for a killing can allow one to sympathize with a killer, finding his cause sufficient, or alternatively empathize with the victim. In The Rattler, the author presents two opposing sides, one vindicating the man’s killing of the snake, and the other finding it wrong that the snake was killed. The author’s use of language and details causes the reader to empathize with the man for the killing, feel sympathy for the human-like snake, and experience both sympathy and empathy through the description of setting.…
Rikki Tikki is a courageous and inspiring character in this story. Rikki jumped on to nag back and fought him (para 58-59).The character trait is that Rikki is not afraid to battle. This helps my thesis because he fought Nag to save the family and that means he loves them and when he won he got courage when he beat Nag. However wise and old they may be, care to follow a cobra into its hole. The evidence demonstrates the character trait because he goes in the nest even when he knows that he could die, but he has courage.…
Cobras are dangerous creatures that has a deadly bite. Even with those risks, Rikki-Tikki-Tavi have fought the snakes in the garden anyways. Rikki-Tikki-Tavi, the book and the movie has both differences, and similarities. The book tells of a war that Rikki-Tikki fought against the black cobras, dust brown snakes, and other serpents in the garden, written by Rudyard Kipling. The movie also tells of a war that Rikki fought against those evil serpents.…
In ‘The Rattler”, the tension and duty reflect the sorrow the man felt after killing the snake, but revealed his role when protecting others. The man was not at ease when he consciously decided to take the life of one of nature's creatures, but was enlightened knowing that he saved human lives that were potentially in danger. In other word, the man was conflicted between choosing to kill an innocent, but harmful snake or to fulfill his job of protecting the weak. The author's diction heightens the vehement and conscientious thoughts of the man when contemplating taking the life of the snake.…
What goes around comes around The “Sweat” is a short story written by Zora Neale Hurston and was published in 1926. The story portrays the struggle of a married, colored couple Sykes and Delia Jones. Delia is an honest, hardworking woman, and Sykes is a mean, rude egomaniac, who finds great pleasure using a snake to torture his wife’s and to laugh at her greatest fear. Upon a closer examination, there is a deeper meaning to the plain words ‘snake’ and ‘sweat’. “Reap what you sow” is the theme of this not-so-fairy tale of the conflict between ‘good’ and the ‘bad.’…
