1. What is conditioning?
Conditioning is a learning process in which a person goes through every time he or she experiences something and responds to it. For example, a person who stubs their toe will cry out in pain and say “ouch!” because that person has learned that “ouch” associates with pain. Conditioning reflects a person’s every day behavior, from simple habits to complex skills.

How does punishment differ from negative reinforcement?
Punishment decreases the likelihood of a person’s behavior being repeated in the future, while a negative reinforcement increases the likelihood of a person’s behavior being repeated. For example, a car with a flashing light to alert the driver to wear a seat belt will be the punishment but it will help decrease the likelihood of a person not wearing a seat belt. On the other hand, a negative reinforcement would be to take the music off from the car until the person wore a seat belt.
7. What factors influence the effectiveness of punishment?
Reinforcing a person with strong positive or negative reinforcement help that person modify his or her behavior in the future. Another factor to the effectiveness of punishment is reducing the frequency of reinforcement once the desired behavior is well established.
