From a recent performance by the Cas Public, they performed a dance which represented Gould’s inspiration. The dancers incorporated nature as one of the ways that Gould was influenced into making music. He created pieces that incorporated both music and nature symmetrically, to show the audience the strong connection between the two. The Goldberge Variations displayed call and response, and the timbre of the piano, [which is classified as a chordophone in the Sachs-Hornbostel System] was polyphonic, which is one melodic line repeated at different points in the composition therefore overlaying the repetitions. The performers chose the variations and made it their own by incorporating many different dimensions into their dances. By evolving and improving the different ways of approaching music, the dancers found a way to physically show the rhythmic complexity of Gouldberg’s Variation by moving their physical body in a way that matched the sound of the music coming from the piano. Similar to Theme and Variation, Rhythm and Blues was also used to speak to the peoples’ emotions, specifically the African Americans.

This goes to show how music has changed and continued to evolve over time and inspire those who listen to it. The general messages and contents of the music may stay the same but the way the message is displayed to the society and how they can relate to it will be different. While exploring and experiencing music’s of a different genre, not only does an individual hear the sounds and dynamics of the music but starts to understand the many different concepts and behaviors of the society in which the music originated from.
