“Give Me Liberty or Give Me Death” is a famous speech spoken by Patrick Henry to the Virginia Assembly. This speech inspired and motivated all the other ‘pens’ and ‘swords’ to fight for their independence and do something. He called to the patriots to arm themselves and raise troops to battle for their separation from Britain. Without Patrick Henry, people would not have been motivated to fight for independence and would instead have done nothing for the colonies. Thomas wrote a pamphlet called “Common Sense,” which used plain and easy-to-understand language and openly asked for Independence. No other person had yet to do something remotely similar to what Paine did. Thomas Paine also wrote “The Crisis,” which boosted resistance and morale, and shamed loyalists. His work showed the colonists that there is truly a need for freedom.
Finally, we would not have won the American Revolution if not for Thomas Jefferson. He wrote the Declaration of Independence which officially declared the thirteen colonies no longer under Britain's rule, an independent nation. Without this, who knows if we would be separated from Britain today. The document proclaims that all men are equal in rights, regardless of birth, wealth or status, and that the government is the servant of all people. Because of Thomas Jefferson, we can officially call ourselves independent
