Synesthesia is a neurological phenomenon which combines the senses due to a cross-wiring in the brain (E.g. Colours linked with letters / Colour-Grapheme Synesthesia). This can make the person with this neurological phenomenon feel alienated and left out by the ones he loves, and can make them less confident in sharing their opinions and so, Synesthetic subjects don’t go for enriching opportunities as much as non-synesthetic people.
They are also affected by the ridicule they receive for their ability. A synesthete’s peers will often find a synesthete’s descriptions of their senses to be scary or overwhelming and react through bullying and verbal abuse. This usually happens near the beginning of a synesthete’s childhood when they finally find out that they are the only ones that see the world differently.
The Synesthetic may not be well known but those who do know of them are prone to stereotyping them because of what they have heard. People suggests that synesthetes are going to be more creative, they think all synesthetic people are left handed and that they don’t have exemplary maths skills. The first point here has been proven wrong, but likely, as a higher percentage of synesthetic people have become artists in their profession.
