Capulet can be blamed for Juliet's death, because he makes her feel like she is worthless to the family. After Juliet tells Lady Capulet that she will not marry Paris, Capulet goes into Juliet's room and tells her that she needs to marry him, because it will bring him more power and a higher social class. He also says that if she refused he would never acknowledge her again. This demonstrates that Capulet only wants to use Juliet to get more power and how Capulet only cares about his social status, and not his family. Capulet tells Juliet that she is unwanted and unworthy of her family. Capulet screams at Juliet and says she is lucky he could find a man that was willing to marry her, and how she is unworthy of Paris and her family. This indicates that Capulet is using Juliet and trying to make her feel bad so she will marry Paris and make Capulet's social status higher. Dr. Henry Cloud and Dr. John Townsend said, "We live in a culture of blame. People will blame anyone or anything for their misery sooner than take the responsibility to own it and make it better" (It's Not My Fault: The No-Excuse Plan for Overcoming Life's Obstacles). This quote is explaining how people are willing to throw others under the bus for their own protection, and how the person is making the situation worse for themselves rather than taking responsibility for their actions. This quote supports the fact that Friar Laurence and Capulet are at fault of Romeo and Juliet's death, because the friar knew that Juliet was in a deep state of sleep and he tells Capulet at her funeral that it is his fault is daughter is dead because of the way he treated her. Also he agreed to marry Romeo to Juliet when he knew it would cause an uproar of problems. Capulet was a fault, because he makes Juliet feel worthless and alone by the way he treats her, and he put blame on timing and not himself. This thesis agrees with the quote, because it shows how Friar Laurence and Capulet played the blame game, because they knew there would be backlash from the public They also understood that if they told the truth there would be severe consequences for their
