Romeo and Juliet is known for the theme “Feuding is absurd and that parents shouldn’t try to control their children’s hearts” Is that the only theme? As shown in Romeo and Juliet you will find the theme that friends can stick closer than family in times of need. When family can’t help we can always turn to our friends. You may ask, how does this apply in Romeo and Juliet? In this essay we will discuss how friends can help in times of need with the nurse,Friar Laurence, and Romeo and Juliet to each other.
The nurse plays a big part in Romeo and Juliet. Although the nurse wasn't always helpful, she was she did care about Juliet much more than her mother. In act I scene Ⅲ when the nurse is talking to Juliet and Lady Capulet she was telling stories and Juliet was laughing with the nurse and Lady Capulet was just standing there not laughing or doing anything. By reading this we can infer that the nurse was much closer to Juliet than Lady Capulet. The nurse loves Juliet as her own daughter and helps Juliet through this hard time with Romeo. Friar Laurence was a big help! He was the one that set up the secret wedding for Romeo and Juliet. That isn't all the help he provided. In act Ⅳ sceneⅠFriar Laurence tells Juliet about his elaborate plan. He gives her the vial of poison to keep her asleep until Romeo gets there so that they can run away. If it worked they would have had a happily ever after. Unfortunately it didn't work. Friar Laurence didn't have to do any of this. He could have just let it be and let Romeo and Juliet be. He helped them in a time of hardship. He could have been killed if someone had found out, but that didn't stop him! What would life be like without
