If any American is asked what comes to mind when the date December 7, 1971 coms up, the first and only thing that comes to mind is the attack on Pearl Harbor. America will never forget this event. On the this Sunday morning 361 planes launched from six Japanese aircraft carriers and delivered a surprise attack on America’s naval base in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. May, 1940 President Roosevelt moved the US Pacific Fleet from California to Pearl Harbor. One month later Congress passed the Naval Expansion Act, this promised to triple the US fleet size by 1944 (Doc C). Hideki Tojo stated in Document E, “ when I think about the strengthening of American defenses in the southwest Pacific, the expansion of the American fleet, … I see no end to difficulties … I fear that we would become a third-class nation after two or three years if we just sat tight (Doc E).” This proves that Tojo was getting nervous about the US getting more powerful and getting in the way of their new order goals. We lost many heroes that day and most of our ships, aircrafts and weapons, but this act against our country brought the American people together. Reading about Pearl Harbor and the attack against our country 's heroes and brothers and sisters, this reminds me of September 11, 2001 also known as 911, also arguily one of the most memorable days in United States history. This day we lost 3,000 Americans which included those who control our economics with other countries and those who save lives. This was a very tragic day for country, ask anyone what they were doing, where they were at that day and they can tell you in exact detail where and what they were doing. These two events are very similar in a way of how the rest of the country responded and came together to help one another. These two events were proof that even though we have problems with each other, we know we can come together in a time of need to show our American Pride and defend our wonderful country. Only Japan will know the reasons why they attacked Pearl Harbor, but what we come to figure out is Japan attacked Pearl Harbor due to the US trying to stop Japan from achieving it’s new order , the US’s embargo of oil and aircrafts with Japan, and the strength of America 's future fleet. We never want anything like these past attacks to happen again, but all we know is the American people can put their problems
