Fracking was originally developed in the 1940’s but a better and cheaper method was invented in the 1990’s called “Deep Fracking,” and was first used in Texas. These wells range from hundreds to thousands of feet deep (Source 3). Production wells may be drilled in the vertical direction only. But they can be paired with horizontal or directional sections (source 3). When the injected liquids pressure exceeds that of the rock, the fluids open or enlarge fractures that can extend several hundred feet away from the well (Source 3). After the fracturing is completed, the internal pressure of the geologic formation causes the injected fracturing, fluids to rise to the surface. The United Kingdom, Romania, Denmark, Ireland, South Africa, and the Czech Republic have all placed temporary bans on Fracking (Source 6). This has also been seen throughout several places in the United States; it has been officially banned in New York, and Vermont. Communities with fracking have seen declines in property values, and losses in local tourism and agriculture. People that support fracking tend to like it because it gives U.S oil independence it helps the economy, and it is an easy and convenient way for us to get energy. But these arhe the people that aren’t thinking about their environment and what this does to the people near the fracking. It is a crime against humanity and nature. Fracking is a short term solution for those who are afraid to face change and long term stabilization.
