Atomic bombs are by far the most potent and dangerous weapons in all of history. They have the potential to destroy the world through various factors like nuclear fallout and human extinction. This was made evident through the complete annihilation of Hiroshima and Nagasaki after America dropped the first two atomic bombs. The cities became uninhabitable and the citizens became plagued with mutations. This occurred in 1945, and now atomic bombs have become more advanced and actually have the potential to completely destroy the earth if two first world civilizations go to war with each other. Although there are many different subtopics involving the Atomic bomb, the four main ones that will be discussed in this paper is the history of the atomic bomb, Composition of atomic bombs, the effect of radiation on humans and environment, and why the atomic bomb is so destructive.
The concept of the atomic bomb started with the discovery …show more content…
The destructive power of atomic weapons comes from a sudden release of energy that is produced by splitting the nuclei of the fissile elements making up the bombs' core. This roll over of energy and sudden release of energy causes an unbelievable amount of energy, and in order to detonate an atomic weapon, you will need a critical mass of some type of fissionable material. Critical mass is defined as the amount of material at which a neutron produced by a fission process will, on average, create another fission event. You need enough Pu-239 or U-235 to make sure that these neutrons released by fission will strike another nucleus, ultimately producing a chain reaction. The more fissionable material you have, the greater the odds the chain reaction will occur. This basic concept that the atomic bomb can effectively create its own energy and reactions. These potential fissions are what make the atomic bomb so dangerous in a
