Peterson and Peterson supported the idea of a limited STM whereas Bahrick supported that of a relatively permanent LTM. Baddeley found that lists of acoustically similar words confused STM whilst semantically similar words confused LTM.

lack of ecological validity because it was done in laboratory conditions. There is own age bias, for example a older participant would be able to identify older people than younger.

Takahashi did the strange situation in a Japanese setting on Japanese infants and mothers. Found that 32% were securely attached and 0% were avoidant. 90% of observations were stopped at episode 6 because of signs of extreme distress.

It was unethical because the strange situation may have been stressful on infants. The strange situation was made in America so may have difficulties generalising to other cultures.
