Have you ever been beaten, bruised, and chained to something in a dark basement? If you answered “yes” to the previous question, then congratulations! If you answered “no”, then you need to get out more. Today, I am here to discuss music for the eighty-three billionth time. So let’s get on with it. Let me introduce our two composers. First, we have Claude Debussy. And next, there is Igor Stravinsky. Now, you might be thinking, “Why did our history lesson start off with a question about chains?” Well, if you have ever seen a chain, then you will know that it is tough and highly durable. Although, it can be broken with enough strength. I am not, however, here to speak about the physical chain; but rather, I am going to focus on the metaphorical chain. What does a metaphorical chain have to do with music? Everything. A lot of musicians follow a pattern when composing and making music. Music is a great thing, but it tends to repeat itself quite often. That is why musicians need to break off the chain of music and stand out from the crowd, which is just what Debussy and Stravinsky did. Now, since this is our last music lesson together, and since we have already discussed so many composers throughout our allotted time, I thought that I would do something special for today. I’m going to break off the regular chain of teaching, and put a new spin on things. Are you ready? Then get your shovels, because we’re peering our composer’s minds. Oh, wait. My time turner broke. Okay,…
quickly learn the voices of parents and caregivers and prefer to be in the company of others. Around nine months or so, children begin to explore their surroundings, the reactions of others and themselves. Infants are learning to trust parents and caregivers and rely on them for necessities; as they age, babies exhibit separation and trust anxieties as the primary caregiver hands over care of the infant to another. This stage usually lasts until about eighteen months of age. As the ability to…
during late adulthood. During this stage, an older adult decides whether or not they believe they lived a life filled with purpose. If the adult believes their life was well lived, they gain a sense of integrity. If not, however, the adult shows signs of despair, or loss of hope. My grandma is a great example of this stage. She has created an incredible family that is extremely loving and happy. Her family and friends are something that are extremely important to her and she has her children and…
There are many theories about human development that can be applied to different educational settings. For my instructional setting I found two theories that can help teachers and administrators better understand the developmental stages of students to help them achieve mastery. Piaget’s Cognitive Development theory and Erickson’s theory of psychological growth are two philosophies that can be applied to my educational context to help enhance the academic experience. Piaget’s Cognitive…
Exploring Myself Identity During the phase of exploration in adolescents and young adults, one’s self concept and self esteem substantially change. Erik Erikson, developmental psychologist and psychoanalyst is recognized for his theory on psychosocial development divided in 8 stages of human development. Erikson claims that adolescents face a substantial psychological turmoil as they encounter an identity crisis (Feldman, 385). Identity vs. identity confusion stage is the phase of discovery and…
1) What are the issues facing Dean at this point in his development? Being that Dean is in Erikson’s psychosocial developmental stage of Identity vs. Role Confusion and with the information provided about Dean in the case study, it would be accurate to say he is facing concerns of who he is, who he is to be, and what other’s think of him (p. 303). Dean as a teenager is faced with the task of moving from an innocent, dependent child to a young adult (p. 282). During such a child-to-adult…
Sharon Knight is a 68 years old woman, born in Edmond, Oklahoma in a small maternity home. She is the middle child of five in her family. Sharon currently lives in Piedmont, Oklahoma in a home that is small enough for the two of them, but also big enough for their four grandchildren to roam about. Sharon has been married for fifty years to the same man, and they still show each other the same love that they did the day they met. She is a wife, mother of two, and grandmother of four, but she…
The psychology of personality is a roadmap to the development of one’s personality. Helping develop these theories have been many great minds whose contributions to this field psychology have given us great insight to the formation of personality, ways we think, behave, and develop from youth. Of these great theorists four stand apart from the pack. These Theorists would be Sigmund Freud, Alfred Adler, Karen Horney, and Erik Erickson. In this paper we will come to a better understanding of each…
happen, but they happen through relationships with others. It is not what we do to, or for each other, it’s more about the relationship that ignites changes in our lives. This comment segway’s my thinking directly to Erikson. Erikson was an ego psychologist who highlighted the function of culture and society and the conflicts that can take place within the ego itself. Conferring to Erikson, the ego develops as it successfully resolves crises that are distinctly social in nature. These involve…
According to the sad person chart Juan is experiencing high amounts of depression. He scored seven points which encourages me to hospitalize the him even if it is involuntary. The way I concluded the sum of points was by the chart. Juan is male which makes it a higher risk that resulted in one point. His age falls between 18 years and 55 years that also makes him a higher risk, and another point was added. In the first sentence it states that he is depressed adding another point. Although, he…
