Part I- Global Comparisons/U.S. vs. Switzerland My global comparison on work life balance will be the U.S. and Switzerland. I chose Switzerland because I have always heard great rumblings about how well the Swiss treats its workforce. I decided to explore this more to determine whether or not it compares positively or negatively on the work life balance in the U.S. My objective is determine which country promotes the best work-life balance that promote a healthy and productive work environment. I will specifically discuss workplace culture and socialization – how does each company shape the culture of work in a business environment and does the business necessarily dictate how employees interact with one another , unemployment and income – explore the rates of unemployment and options available to skilled and unskilled workers and work and its reward – now that you have accepted the job how are employees rewarded in terms of salary and fringe benefits; specifically what is considered fringe benefits in the business work environment. In my research in comparing workplace culture and socialization I found that the US businesses don’t clearly draw the line between business and personal matters. In the US we tend to blend the two topics together, it could be attributed to the long hours employees work in business organizations. The philosophy is that workers spend more time at work than with family. According to the Washington Post (McGregor, 2014), the average full time worker…
Some say outsourcing is not right and needs to come to an end, but others disagree. In the long run outsourcing helps the American economy and gives people in less developed countries, also known as LDCs more job opportunities. Outsourcing affects the world around us, and it affects different countries and peoples differently. Outsourcing began between the 1950’s and 1960’s because businesses always wanted to know how to exploit their competitive advantage. The IT companies use outsourcing the…
The word jobless is infact a common word in every society especially with the recent economic crisis that has hit the world. The word, Jobless relates to those who have no job or unemployed or it could be used to refer to a group of people who are not employed. Joblessness happens. Some may ask is unemployment actually a social problem? The answer is and always will be most definitely yes. The rate of unemployment has played a huge part in the affect in our society. Unemployment leads to people being homeless, and hungry. When you aren’t able to provide food for your family or yourself, social services come into play and provide for you enough to get you by and live off of. Our government is continually providing for the homeless and unemployed and extending benefits for…
The effects of the 2008 recession still reverberate in many low income areas; although the unemployment rate has finally recovered to pre-recession levels. Experts say that this is a result of people withdrawing from the workforce. An article written by Margaret Simms, a renowned authority on social issues regarding low income families, and director of the Low-Income Working Families project at the Urban Institute, argues that more needs to be done to help low-income workers. Her position keeps…
Unemployment can be faced by different kinds of people but not all handle it the same. Indianapolis, Indiana is known as the city with most jobs equally for both lower, medium, and higher class. Different problems arise with unemployment with countless solutions attached to each specific issue, but there is only one good reasonable solution that will be beneficial for the problem. One company that is facing such problem is car parts and accessories manufacturers in Mooresville, Indiana called…
As a bunch of students would graduate from universities, they start to look for a job that match their majors. Before the youth gets what they have learned from institutions, they are worried by the status of unemployment in today’s society. Also, some school leavers would not like to receive a low paying job. This phenomena we call youth unemployment. Some statistics that “more than 40 percent of young people are unemployed” in spain, “more than 20 percent” in France, and “21 percent” in USA…
This past summer, I had a friend of mine who fits perfect in the category of being a discouraged worker. Krugman and wells (2015) defines a discouraged worker as a nonworking person who is capable of working but have given up looking for a job given the state of the job market. She always talked about not having enough money, no money in her savings, and no money to go out. When she would have money, she would spend it on stuff she does not need. She started looking for a summer job, but every…
The reasons to support the evidence This policy is highly recommended because if in any circumstance someone happens to lose their job it is a good thing to know that there will be a good supporting cast to support you to relive the financial stress and it gives you time to search for a new job. My recommendation I support the unemployment policy for various amount of reasons because it is given to those who meets up to the requirements without them being in any fault due to their situation.…
People who are seeking work or have been recently layoff are considered unemployed. Unemployment is one major problem in the economy, unemployment doesn't just affect the person who is getting laid off, but also their family because they won't have a high steady income. Finding a different job can be difficult, it can lead to someone feeling stressed, depressed and unuseful. If an employer wants to stay employed, they will want to become valuable to the company and if that doesn't work they will…
