• Main nerve supply to the distal hindlimb:
1. Common peroneal nerve: dorsal
2. Tibial nerve: plantar

1. Tibial nerve: Main nerve
2. Lateral and medial plantar nn. + lateral and medial plantar metatarsal nn.
3. Lateral and medial plantar proper digital nerves

Nerve supply to the dorsal aspect below hock joint
– Lateral and medial
• dorsal metatarsal nn.(branches of the deep peroneal n.)
• Dorsal digital nerves
– dorsal branches of lateral and medial plantar proper
digital nn.
– Superficial peroneal n.

Lateral and medial plantar metatarsal
nerves are the branches of
–Deep branch of the lateral plantar nerve

Nerve supply to the dorsal aspect of
the digits
–Lateral and medial dorsal digital nerves
–Dorsal branches from LPPD and MPPD.

Main blood supply to the crus
– Cranial tibial artery

Main blood supply to the pes
– Dorsal metatarsal artery

• Arteries located at the plantar aspect below the
hock and above the fetlock –
– Medial and lateral plantar arteries + plantar
metatarsal arteries. (Parent branch –saphenous
artery and deep plantar arch resp.))
– Dorsal metatarsal artery III
