How can network objects be managed ?

Tip

There are two sets of permission entries you can use to determine access to a folder on a file server:

* share permissions and

* NTFS permissions

Tip:

Share permissions apply only to users accessing an object via the network.

NTFS permissions apply to both local and network users.

Tip:

Permissions can be explicit or inherited.

Explicit permissions are set by default on non-child objects when you create them. You can also set explicit permissions manually on non-child, parent, or child objects inherited

When permissions are imparted from a parent object to another object, they are referred to as inherited permissions. They simplify the management of permissions, and enable you to ensure consistency of permissions among all the objects in a given container.

Tip:

Objects in a container inherit the container's permissions by default when you create them.

Tip:

There are three methods you can use to make changes to inherited permissions:

* modifying the parent object's permissions

* enabling a permission to override the inherited deny permission

* disabling the setting that configures the object to inherit any permissions from the parent object
