Causes of pseudopneumoperitoneum - perihepatic
Liver and adjacent abscesses, skin folds, abdominal wall defects, fat in the fissure for the ligamentum teres, air in the biliary tree, portal venous gas, periduodenal retroperitoneal air
Causes of pseudopneumoperitoneum in the midabdomen
excessive fat in the properitoneal space, abundant appendices epiploicae, two adjacent gas filled bowel loops, retained intraluminal contrast material, air in the bowel wall, retroperitoneal air
Causes of pneumoretroperitoneum
postoperative, post diagnostic procedure, penetrating trauma, blunt traumatic rupture of the duodenum, pelvic trauma with perforation of the rectum, spontaneous colon perforation (volvulus, diverticulosis, carcinoma), extension from pneumomediastinum, gas containing retroperitoneal abscess
Causes of pseudopneumoretroperitoneum
Pneumoperitoneum, abscesses within the liver or spleen, subphrenic abscess, fat in the renal sinuses, excessive retroperitoneal fat, retroperitoneal hemorrhage, fat in the psoas muscles, spontaneous subcutaneous emphysema, Iatrogenic subcutaneous emphysema
