What's the mechanism of action?
Blocks sodium channels and myocardial potassium channels.
What's the dosage for adults and pediatric patients?
Adults - 300mg IV/IO push to be followed one time in 3-5 mins @ 150mg IV/IO push. Rapid infusion 150mg over 10 mins, Slow infusion 360 mg over 6 hours, Maintenance infusion 540 mg over 18 hours. Pediatric - 5 mg/kg IV/IO bolus can repeat same dose up to 15 mg/kg in 24 hour period.
What are the Indications?
V-FIB, pulseless V-TACH and unstable V-TACH in patients refractory to other therapy.
What are the Contraindications?
Known hypersensitivity, cardiogenic shock, sinus bradycardia, and second or third degree AV block.
What are the side effects?
Hypotension, bradycardia, prolongation of the P-R, QRS, and Q-T intervals.
What's the classification?
Antiarrhythmic.
Whats the duration of action?
Onset - immediate with peak effect in 10-15 mins Duration of action 30-45 mins
