Follicular phase
|
Primordial follicles form primary follicles. Follicular cells thicken into granulosa cells that sythesize estrogens. Antral lakes are created from this (collectively this makes the secondary follicle ~ day 5 of the cycle). Mature follicle has fused antral lakes into a single antrum. This collectively takes around 13 days

Ovulation and luteal phase
|
On day 14 the oocyte is ovulated. Afterwards the follicle collapses and forms a corpus luteum which secretes progesterone to stimulate the uterus to prepare for implanation of fertilized ovum. If this doesn't occur, the corpus luteum atrophies and forms corpus albicans. Levels drop and menstruation will then occur to start it over
