Follicular phase
Primordial follicles form primary follicles. Follicular cells thicken into granulosa cells that sythesize estrogens. Antral lakes are created from this (collectively this makes the secondary follicle ~ day 5 of the cycle). Mature follicle has fused antral lakes into a single antrum. This collectively takes around 13 days
Ovulation and luteal phase
On day 14 the oocyte is ovulated. Afterwards the follicle collapses and forms a corpus luteum which secretes progesterone to stimulate the uterus to prepare for implanation of fertilized ovum. If this doesn't occur, the corpus luteum atrophies and forms corpus albicans. Levels drop and menstruation will then occur to start it over
Endometrium phases in change
proliferative, secretory, premenstrual
Proliferative
Rebuilding of endometrial tissue
Secretory
Endometiral thickening, sitmulated from progesterone from the corpus luteum
Premenstrual Phase
Endometrial degeneration occuring last 2/3 days of the cycle
