Sperm Cell formation in testes
Occurs first in seminiferous tubules. Sertoli and spermatogenic cells help along with interstitial cells. Then released into lumen of seminiferous tubules and move toward epididymis by passing through thickened portion of posterior wall by rete testes.
Sperm cell after testes
Pass into epididymis by tubules called efferent ductules. Takes ~20 days for sperm to move through it, along way they mature and become mobile, capapble of fertilization. Sperm are stored here til ejaculation
Descent of testicles
In fetal development they descend from posterior abdominal wall to scrotum. Gubernaculum pulls testes as it shortens in developing fetus. Move through anterior abdominal wall via the inguinal canal.
Mechanisms of erection
Excitement inhibits sympathetic impulses to penis. Parasympathetic impulses cause vasodilation of arterioles within penis. Venous flow then reduced. Blood accumulates for erection
Mechanisms of ejaculation
Sympathetic impulses cause contraction of smooth muscle. Rhythmic contractions in bulbourethral glands, prostate and seminal vesicles. Peristaltic contractions as well in the testicular ducts, epididymis, ductus deferens and ejaculatory ducts. Emission - Seminal fluid is forced into urethra. Ejaculation - seminal fluid is forecefully expelled from the urethra in a series of spurts
